A finished basement is a great alternative to an addition.  A basement remodel can create an additional floor of living space at a fraction of the cost of an addition.  Also, the turnaround in the permit process for a basement is about two to three weeks, compared to the two to three months an addition permit can take.  And, a variance is never required.

All too many times, contractors will finish a basement and leave it with a substandard appearance. Our goal with every basement remodel is to extend the living space.  To accomplish this, we focus on the key areas:  windows, hallway, steel lolly columns and, most importantly, low protruding plumbing and steel ductwork.   To properly extend your living space, these items need to be framed, sheetrocked and finished in full and professionally.  In some instances, plumbing and ductwork will need to be reconfigured.

The most frequently asked question is "what looks better in a basement, a dropped ceiling or a sheetrock ceiling?"  A sheetrock ceiling is more aesthetically appealing, looks more professional and is more in keeping with the rest of any house.  Although the homeowner may be concerned about covering the utilities, it really is no different than a bathroom on the second floor.  Here, electric, water and drain lines are always enclosed in the sheetrock of the first floor ceiling.  The dry-walled basement ceiling is the same.

And there’s no limit to the possibilities in a basement remodel.  We’ve installed all of the following, and more:

  • Wet bars
  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms
  • TV centers
  • Home theatres
  • Bedrooms
  • Home offices
  • Exercise rooms
  • Wine cellars

So whether you want a small playroom for the children or a upscale living space, Rufolo Construction is your first choice.
